Protect your Security system or why own it

People I have seen more and more people pop up with unsecure systems connected to the Internet. So in this post I will provide what you and your loved ones should do to protect your safety.

  • Change default Credentials: Always CHANGE the default username and password to something unique. VERY STRONG ONES.
  • Update Firmware: If your device is well supported then you will want to make sure you update the Firmware in your Device be it a IP Camera, DVR/NVR or just using your NAS. Firmware can help patch security Vulnerabilities. If your system don’t have a new FIRMWARE buy a system that is well supported and offer secutiry updates.
  • Network Segmentation: Place cameras on a sperate network to limit potential access points to your devices. This can be done using a second router that isn’t granted access to the Internet or a Managed Switch
  • Disable unnecessary Features: Turn off unused functionalities to reduce potential attack vectors.
  • Encryption: Enable encryption for data transmission to safeguard againt eavesdropping.
  • Regular System Audits: Periodically review device logs for suspicious activity.
  • Firewall: Impement a firewall to control incoming and outgoing traffic.
  • Physical Security: Protect physical access to the devices to prevent tampering. Don’t leave your systems running full time without having to log into the device. This can leave a hole for them to tamper without you knowing about it
  • VPN usage: Consider using a Virtual Private Netwrok (VPN) for secure Remote access.
  • Strong Authentication: implement two-factor authentication for an extra layer of protection.

Remember, staying vigilant and adopting a multi-layered security approach is crucial. Please note don’t put your device directly on the Internet there are just to many ways that someone could gain access. use a VPN
