So there are many different services offered and some free. I will post a few so you have an idea of what or where to look. Please be sure to review the features, limitations and pricing of each service to choose the one that best fits your requirements.

  • NGROK, They have paid services and do offer a single personal account free.
  • Heroku Tunnel, Offers a tunneling service and might fit your needs.
  • LocalTunnel, is a Simple and easy alternative
  • Serveo, is a free open-source alternative for ones that want Open-Source provider.
  • PageKite, is another service
  • UltraHook is another service

I personally use NGROK free account. This I can use it to serve a WebServer on my network that is on a different machine. I use NGROK to access my IP camera or NVR that I want to have access to outside of my local area network without having to expose my devices to the internet. If you ping my ISP static IP it will come back showing there is nothing exposed and that is what you want. You want it so the world just passing by can’t try and gain access of your device, yet you still have access using a special hole that has been pushed though even your firewall.

To give you an idea of my Setup I have my ISP going to a Router/Modem, I have another router that I use for all my devices behind that first router and then connected to 2 managed switches. My devices are connected to my switches and that includes the computer that I run NGROK from. Once I start NGROK I can take the URL that it makes to connect to the device I have chose to grant access too. This also has the ability to see if there is any Traffic on the link at that computer and if I happen to grant someone access to my device for testing or just to look at, I can remove access from the internet by pressing CTRL-C. Once I want to start the service again, I will get a new link address that I would have to share again if I wanted to grant access to someone other then myself. The paid service offers links that are the same over and over if you wanted that type of use case. I personally like that it makes a new URL that I can make each time I run the service myself..
