What you should do when Setting up IP camera or DVR/NVR

January 23, 2024

To enhance security measures during DVR/NVR or IP Camera installation, consider these steps:

  1. Change Default Password: Update default login credentials to strengthen access control and prevent unauthorized access
  2. Encryption: Enable encryption protocols (Like HTTPS) to secure data transmission between cameras and the NVR.
  3. Firmware Update: Regularly check and update firmware for both DVR/NVR and IP Cameras to address security vulnerabilities.
  4. Network Security: Implement strong network security measures, including firewalls and secure WI-FI protocols, to protect against cyber threats.
  5. User Access Control: Define user roles and permissions to restrict access based on responsibilities, minimizing the risk of unauthorized changes.
  6. Remote Access Security: If remote access is needed, use secure methods like VPNs and two factor authentication to safeguard against unauthorized remote entry. Using something like NGROK is much safer then forwarding ports to the devices.
  7. Physical Security: Ensure the physical security of the DVR/NVR and cameras, placing them in a secure location to prevent tampering to theft.
  8. Regular Audits: Conduct periodic security audits to identify and address potential vulnerabilities in the system. If you find something report and fix as soon as you can.

By incorporating these measures, you can establish a more robust and secure Surveillance System.
